Improving the quality production of traditional Bengali clothing by reducing the environmental consequences of loom Enterprise in Sirajganj Project-SEP (SEP-Loom)

Duration: May 26, 2019 to ‍January 31, 2024

Objectives: The goal of the sub project is: to increase the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices by the loom enterprises to become environmental friendly and sustainable. The objectives are: (a) to create awareness among the stakeholders to the benefit of environment friendly and resilient loom enterprise, (b) to reduce the environmental hazards; water, sound and soil pollution caused by the loom enterprises and (c) to introduce technologies and practices to be environment friendly enterprises as per national and international policies and standards. (d) To develop a specific brand for the area.

Major Activities:  Under component 1; (a) Initiatives to increase eco labeling and access to premium market e.g. capacity building and increase bargaining power of the entrepreneur (b) Non-revenue generating common service facilities e.g. development of market place, common sanitary latrine (c) Revenue generalizing common service facilities e.g. processing mill, dying mill etc. (d) Capacity development of the MEs, (e) Capacity development of the NDP. And under component 2; (f) Providing financial support to the MEs for their long term financial sustainability.

Implementation process: The sub-project consists of 2 (two) component (a) Enhancing services and enabling system, and (b) Strengthen access to fiancé for commercially viable environ friendly and resilient microenterprise. The project activities implement by the project staffs and concerned CSP staffs jointly. The beneficiaries of the project are NDP’s CSP borrowers who have enterprise with loom within the project cluster area.
