Promotion of Environmentally Sustainable Practices in Dairy Business Cluster in Sirajganj District under “Sustainable Enterprise Project-SEP” Project

Duration: May 31, 2020 to January 31, 2024

Objectives: The goal of the sub-project is to: improve environmental and economic condition of the dairy entrepreneurs through adoption of environmentally sustainable practices and the objectives are to :(a) reduce water and air pollution caused by the dairy cluster through solid waste management and adoption of environment friendly technologies, process and practices. (b) contribute to improve environment through promoting use of bio-pesticide, bio-fertilizer and bio-gas made from dung, urine, etc. and (c) increase income of the dairy micro-entrepreneurs through providing supports to produce quality products to reach premium markets.

Major Activities:  Under component 1; (a) Initiatives to increase eco labeling and access to premium market e.g. awareness raising and product certification (b) Revenue generating common service facilities e.g. establishment of Milk Chilling center, Milk Transportation Cooling Truck, Large scale production of bio-pesticide and bio-fertilizer/compost (Vermi and/or Pit), Establishment of milk and milk product brand-shop, display and sales center, Establishment of Vatenary Service Center, Demonstration of Pabna Breed (c) Non-revenue generalizing common service facilities e.g. Cattle market shed, Construction of Commom dumping Ground, Homestead plinth raising, Common toilets at market place, Connecting Road Raising, Milk Collection Center, Landing Station construction for cattle. (d) Capacity development of the MEs, (e) Capacity development of the NDP. And under component 2; (f) Providing financial support to the MEs for their long term financial sustainability.

Implementation process: The sub-project consists of 2 (two) component (a) Enhancing services and enabling system, and (b) Strengthen access to fiancé for commercially viable environ friendly and resilient microenterprise. The project activities implement by the project staffs and concerned microfinance staffs jointly. The beneficiaries of the project are NDP’s microfinance borrowers who have enterprise with loom within the project cluster area.
