Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
Duration:December 01, 2023 to December 31, 2024
Objectives: To (i) systematically mitigate disaster risk in the three upazilas of Kurigram District by implementing a proactive DRR program; and (ii) Coordinate meaningful engagement with both public and private stakeholders, and ensure sustainable, community-driven initiatives to prepare the Risk Reduction Action Plan (RRAP) through Community Risk Assessment (CRA) followed by Implementing different Schemes prioritized in RRAP through support from local Disaster Management Committees.
Major Activities: (i) Host an Inception Workshop to introduce the DRR Program under PPP to district-level stakeholders and initiate collaboration; (ii) Selection and Mobilize Youth Volunteer Groups (male and female) consisting with 36 in each Union; (iii) Organize training for Youth Volunteer Groups on disaster preparedness, risk reduction and link them with the local DMCs (Union/ward); (iv) Organize training for the UDMC selected members (15 per union including 3 Govt peoples) on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools and techniques, Community Risk Assessment (CRA) and Risk Reduction Action; (v) Organize CRA sessions in each ward to prepare the RRAP by the trained UDMC members and Govt. officials with the support of Youth Volunteer Groups if the RRAP is not existed for the union; (vi) Share the signed copy of RRAPs with the UzDMCs and or Upazila Administrations; (vii) Organize CRA and RRAP review sessions with the UzDMC members to get approval on RRAPs; (viii) Facilitate and sign the MoU with UDMC & UzDMC to implement DRR schemes at union level under Public Private Partnership (PPP) Fund; and (ix) Facilitate the implementation of DRR schemes at union level under Public Private Partnership (PPP) Fund
